How Thresholds Started

A Helping Hand Since 1975

Thresholds is a non-profit agency serving Kent County residents who have a developmental disability. We began nearly 50 years ago in Kent County at the forefront of serving individuals with developmental disabilities who were moving out of institutions.

We have always been innovative in the way we provide and coordinate various services. We were groundbreaking in the way we integrated those with developmental disabilities into the community. We moved people into homes in neighborhoods, encouraging them to be full community participants through everyday activities like going to events, entertainment venues, tourist stops, places of worship and restaurants.

Our Services Are Tailored to Each Individual’s Needs

We provide services wherever the person lives, tailoring supports to individual needs and goals. Our homes are attractive, well maintained and functional, providing safety and comfort for our residents. We foster independence for our individuals through skill development, structured activities and positive social interaction.

We Provide Peace of Mind for Families

Our professional services inspire trust and take away the worry. Guardians and families of those we serve know that we approach each person as an individual and respond to their specific needs.

We Work Efficiently with Bureaucracies and Cut Through Red Tape

We work collaboratively with other organizations providing services for persons with disabilities. We are knowledgeable and work efficiently with bureaucracies, cutting through red tape and achieving the desired outcomes for those we serve. We also do not shy away from providing needed services for people with behavioral challenges and we do so with empathy and respect.
